Knowing how to use a map and compass will get you there and back, safely and with confidence. The most interesting sights, sounds and experiences in nature are off the beaten path, away from crowds and people. But, in the cathedrals of nature there are no street signs and one way arrows, only the hills, rivers, mountains and valleys you seek. Knowing how to use a map and compass, however, will give you all the "street signs" you'll need. A walk in the wild will be as sure as a walk in your own neighborhood. In the video you'll learn to: read an accurate bearing from you compass, read the contours on a topographic map and recognize the "shape" of the land, measure distances on a map and plot your course from landmark to landmark, adjust your bearing for magnetic declination, overcome obstacles and walk around them, even if they are out of sight.
